Jason Hentrich is a singer, actor, and teacher in the Baltimore/Washington area. He performs in plays, musicals, opera, choral works, and recitals.

Born and raised in northern California, Jason began his formal training at Cabrillo College, studying drama, voice, and conducting. In 2017, the Cabrillo music department, represented by his voice teacher Cheryl Anderson, awarded Jason its Artist of Distinction Award.

Jason later attended the Peabody Conservatory of Music in Baltimore, Maryland. He studied voice with John Shirley-Quirk and Steven Rainbolt. While at Peabody, he performed in masterclasses with Marni Nixon, Dalton Baldwin, and William Sharp. He was a teaching assistant to Thomas Grubb. 

Jason then continued his theatrical studies at the Studio Acting Conservatory in Washington, DC. He studied with Joy Zinoman, Serge Seiden, Nancy Paris, and Kate Debelack. 

 

Jason's theater credits include Sweeney Todd, The Elaborate Entrance of Chad Deity, Company, Alice In Wonderland, Assassins, The Fall of the House of Usher, Becoming George, Fiddler on the RoofTravestiesHello Again, and ‘Tis Pity She’s a Whore. Jason sang at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts for 15 years as a chorister with the Washington National Opera, including Nabucco, Carmen, and Der Ring des Nibelungen. He was a soloist at WNO in Andrea Chénier and Lucrezia Borgia. He appeared as a baritone soloist in Carmina Burana, Monteverdi's Vespers, and Voices of Light with the Annapolis Chorale. In 2021 Jason presented his first solo cabaret show, Instructions to the Audience, at the Live Arts Maryland Studio.

Jason teaches music at Clarksville Elementary School in Howard County, Maryland. He holds degrees from the Peabody Conservatory at Johns Hopkins University and the American Kodály Institute at Loyola University Maryland. He has previously taught at the Peabody Preparatory, Maryland Opera’s Summer Opera Camp, Washington College, Imagination Stage, and Prince George’s County Public Schools.

Jason lives in Maryland with his wife, two children, and dog. In his spare time he enjoys games of all kinds, homebrewing, and distracting himself while exercising.
